Dollar Store Supplies Pros & Cons

The great thing about making a wreath from dollar store materials is that it’s affordable and accessible. You can find almost everything you need at your local dollar store, and the project only takes a few minutes to complete.

However, there are a few drawbacks to using dollar store materials. First, the quality of the materials may not be as good as those found at craft stores. Second, the selection may be limited, so you may have to get creative with your designs.

Overall, though, making a Valentine’s Day wreath from dollar store materials is a great way to save money and add some festive flair to your home. I used necklaces found at Dollar Tree because they were readily available and cost 4/$1.00. Have to love inexpensive craft supplies!

Supplies to make Dollar Store Valentine's Day Wreath

Why a Valentine’s Day Wreath?

Valentine’s Day is a special day for celebrating love and affection. It’s a time to show your loved ones how much you care and to enjoy the company of those you hold dear. Valentine’s Day decorations are a great way to show off your holiday spirit and decorate for the occasion.

If you’re looking for a way to add some extra festive flair to your home this Valentine’s Day, why not try making a wreath? This easy tutorial will show you how to make a beautiful wreath using materials from the dollar store. You only need a few supplies, and it only takes a few minutes to put together!

So what are you waiting for? Get started on your dollar store Valentine’s Day wreath today!

Step By Step Tutorial

Are you ready to make this super easy wreath? Let’s get started! These are the supplies you’ll need:

The first step will be to wrap the pink crepe paper around the foam wreath. This will create a uniform background color for the metallic necklaces to blend into. You can use a bit of hot glue to adhere the final section in place.

Hand wrapping pink crepe paper around foam wreath

Begin adding the heart necklaces by gluing the beginning of one to the back of the wreath and then wrapping it until you can hot glue the end to the back as well. Continue attaching the necklaces, alternating colors as you go. Depending on the width and size of your wreath, you may need to squeeze the inner sections of necklaces to account for the curvature of the wreath.

Hand gluing piece of metallic heart necklace to back of wreath

Use Cricut digital cutting machine to cut a bow shape from the Metallic Faux Leather and assemble with hot glue. Apply more hot glue to the back of the bow and stick in place on the bottom of the wreath.

You can either decide to leave the wreath just like this or add galvanized words (also found at Dollar Tree) for more customization. I had the hardest time deciding which one I liked the best!

What cutting machine is the best?

Asking which cutting machine is the best is a bit of a loaded question. I genuinely believe that it is ultimately up to each crafter to determine which device is best for their needs, budget, and goals.

I’m a massive fan of all the Cricut cutting machines. While I also have a long-standing professional relationship with them, I would never recommend a product I didn’t back.

Right now, my favorite Cricut machine is the Maker 3! I love that I don’t have to use a cutting mat with their Smart Materials. I used Infusible Ink Transfer Sheets to make these adorable mugs. The Cricut Blank Stackable Mugs are perfect for Valentine’s Day gifts!

It’s the perfect gift for daughters, co-workers, or good friends!

Valentine’s Day Lip Balm Gift

Materials:

  • Lip balm stick
  • Free “Sweet Lips” Valentine’s Day Label (download below)

Step 1. First things first, you’re going to want to cut out the free “Sweet Lips” Valentine’s Day Labels. I’ve included two to a page just in case you’re planning on gifting multiples. Don’t forget to cut along the dashed lines that run along the middle section of the lips and stop in the center.

Step 2. Highly suggest you sign the card before assembling it. So much easier to do it on a flat surface!

Step 3. (optional) If you’ve got a little extra time and the desire, use your Cricut machine and some vinyl (I love the transparent glitter vinyl from Expressions Vinyl!) to personalize the lip balm stick. Just don’t forget to make an incision for the opening!

Step 4. Place lip balm stick in the center of the label and carefully maneuver the lips until they slide in place.

And that’s all you need to make a “Sweet Lips” Valentine’s Day Lip Balm Gift! I love how this is the perfect little practical gift that almost anyone would love to receive. I don’t know about you guys but I’m always misplacing and looking for my lip balms!

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Cricut. The opinions and text are all mine.

I’m seriously the biggest sucker for silly puns during Valentine’s Day. The more they make my kids’ eyes roll, the more I love them! When else is it socially acceptable to make jokes like a four year old?

That’s why I totally love this Dinosaur Valentine’s Day Banner. My kids actually cracked a little smile when I showed it to them. “Get it…tricera-tops?!”

It was either triceratops or “You stole a pizza my heart.”

My kids should count themselves lucky!

This Nail File Punny Valentine Gift is just what you need! A super cute way to tell your friends how awesome they are.

Hand holding Nail File Punny Valentine Gift with words "I'd File You Under Awesome!"

I bought these adorable mini files last year and didn’t know quite what I wanted to do with them. When I saw them again last week, I just knew they had to be turned into Valentine’s Day gifts!

The great thing about this gift is that it’s totally practical. I love little knick knacks as much as the next person but they usually just end up in the trash. I guarantee that these nail files will be used!

[feast_advanced_jump_to]

Supply list

To make this gift, you’re going to need some mini nail files! I bought mine at Marshall’s last year but I’m sure they have something similar again. Or get the same brand of mini foam files I used on Amazon.

Just a word of caution, if you decide to buy thinner emory boards, you’re going to have to adjust the holding tabs when you cut them out.

First printable option

Thanks to the fine folks over at OnlineLabels.com, I’ve got two different ways you can print out this Nail File Valentine Gift! The first option is printing out a 3.5″ x 2″ foldable label that can be added to the top of a small bag over on their site.

You can also customize with your own message if you want to be total glam!

Download printable bag toppers HERE

Second printable option

If you don’t want to use little bags, this second printing option is the way to go! Just print off a card and use a sharp craft knife to cut out the tabs that hold the nail files. It’s a tight fit so don’t worry about them falling out!

How perfect would this be to give to your teen daughter and her friends?

Who to give this gift to?

This gift is perfect for anyone that has nails! I think it would be a great gift to give co-workers or employees. I’m definitely giving it to my sisters and friends for Galentine’s Day!

Candy Hearts Valentine's Day Wreath - A sweet wreath tutorial to celebrate the day!

Are you a fan of those sugary-sweet candy hearts that always pop up around Valentine’s Day? (Except for 2019 apparently!) It seems that people are pretty opinionated about whether they like them or not. One thing we can all agree on is that this Candy Hearts Valentine’s Day Wreath is perfectly sweet enough for any decor!

This month’s Craft Lightning is dedicated to obscure holidays so I’m making this wreath in celebration of National Candy Day on November 4th. (Anyone else find it strange that a day all about delicious sweets is in November instead of February or October? Oh well.) You can see more fun unique holiday ideas at the bottom of this post!

Candy Hearts Valentine's Day Wreath - Words

Candy Hearts Valentine’s Day Wreath

Supplies:

Candy Hearts Valentine's Day Wreath - Paper Mache Hearts

The first thing you’re going to want to do is place out the paper mache heart box lids around the wreath to get an idea of how they’re going to fit. I was able to fit 11 around a 12″ hoop but depending on the size of yours, you may need more or less.

Candy Hearts Valentine's Day Wreath - Embroidery Hoops

Once you have the exact amount, grab a paintbrush and begin adding some color to the front of each lid. Set the lids aside to dry completely.

Candy Hearts Valentine's Day Wreath - Paint

When the lids are completely dry, use the alphabet stamps to add words to the hearts. You can either copy the sayings I used or make up some fun ones of your own!

Candy Hearts Valentine's Day Wreath - Stamp

Layout the hearts on your embroidery hoop again to see where you’re going to have to glue everything in place. Remove one heart at a time to apply a bit of glue to the hoop and then press the lid in place. Don’t worry if it’s not feeling super secure. We’ll work on that in the next step!

Candy Hearts Valentine's Day Wreath - Glue

Now that you have all the hearts on the embroidery hoop, carefully flip the wreath over and begin securing the places when the wreath and the lid touch with tons of hot glue. This is not the time to be conservative with your hot glue gun use. The more the better!

Candy Hearts Valentine's Day Wreath - Back

Continue around the entire wreath until each heart is securely in place. You can either hang as is or use a ribbon attached to the top to hang from a nail. Whether you like eating them or not, hope you enjoy this Candy Heart Valentine’s Day Wreath for many years to come!
