If you’re looking for a modern and stylish Halloween wreath that won’t break the bank, look no further than your local Dollar Tree. You can create a stunning Halloween wreath with inexpensive supplies to impress your guests, ghouls, and goblins!

Why you should make your Halloween wreath

It’s no secret that Halloween is one of the most fun holidays of the year. But what’s not so fun is spending a lot of money on decorations. One way to save money and still have a great-looking decoration is to make wreaths. And it’s not that difficult if you use inexpensive materials from the dollar store.

With just a few expensive supplies, you can create a modern and stylish Halloween wreath that will impress your guests and cost you less than $10. So why not give it a try? You’ll be surprised at how much fun you have in the process.

Other reasons to make your own Modern Halloween wreath:

  • Making your wreath gets you in that Halloween spirit!
  • You can customize your wreath to match your Halloween decor, and it’s a great way to add a personal touch to your holiday decorations and front door decor.
  • Making your wreath is also fun for the whole family. So get creative and have fun!

Supplies needed from the dollar store

There are so many Halloween supplies you can get from a dollar store! For this modern wreath project, you’ll need:

A step-by-step guide to making the wreath

  1. Use hot glue to apply the bones to the wreath form. I found it helpful to start with the larger bones and then added the smaller bones after.
  2. Once the bones are in place, spray paint the wreath with your desired color. I used Krylon Citrus Green for mine.
  3. Make a simple bow from your decorative ribbon cut with scissors. I got this fabulous black and white ribbon from Michaels.
  4. Attach to bottom of wreath with either a wire or hot glue gun.

Customize your wreath with unique embellishments

There are many ways to customize this wreath to make it your own. Here are a few more ideas for you:

  • Use small pumpkins instead of bones, or use both!
  • Paint the wreath black and add glow-in-the-dark embellishments.
  • Tie some fake spider webs on here to make it even creepier.
  • Try a gradient look with spray paint for a fun and festive look.
  • Omit the ribbon completely. Or use a white ribbon or black ribbons customized with ghosts or skulls for a fun look.

Use your creativity to create the perfect Halloween door decorations!

In conclusion, making a modern Halloween wreath from Dollar Tree is a great way to save money and still have beautiful decorations for your home. You can create a stunning spooky wreath to impress your front porch guests with just a few supplies. So, get creative and have fun!

Make a Cheap and Easy Metallic Skulls Dollar Store Halloween Wreath https://www.triedandtrueblog.com/make-a-cheap-and-easy-metallic-skulls-dollar-store-halloween-wreath/ https://www.triedandtrueblog.com/make-a-cheap-and-easy-metallic-skulls-dollar-store-halloween-wreath/#respond Thu, 15 Sep 2022 14:35:01 +0000 https://www.triedandtrueblog.com/?p=14363

There are few crafts I enjoy making more than Halloween wreaths. I’ve made so many wreaths over the years, and I love each of them! That being said, This Metallic Skulls Halloween Wreath might just be one of my absolute favorites. It’s minimal and modern from a distance, with just the right amount of spookiness when you get close. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that you can get almost all the supplies from a dollar store!

Dollar Store Halloween Supplies

You can pick up many great Halloween supplies at most dollar stores! I’ve made more than a dozen different types of dollar store DIY Halloween wreaths from craft supplies I’ve picked up there. Some of my favorites are:

As you can see, the options are almost endless! Most of my Halloween holiday decorations are from Dollar Tree but I’ll hop into the other dollar stores just out of curiosity sometimes. Halloween crafts are just so much fun to make!

Metallic Skulls Halloween Wreath

Supplies:

Step 1. First things first, you’re going to assemble all your supplies on a table in front of you…and then you’re going to grab a beverage of choice and turn on a good movie because gluing the skulls in place is going to take a while. But I promise it’s worth it! Begin by placing hot glue on the back of a skull and then placing it on the wreath, making sure to hold it in place long enough for the glue to harden. Don’t worry if it feels like the skulls aren’t really secure on the wreath. By the time you finish, there’s going to be so much glue on the wreath those skulls aren’t going anywhere!

Step 2. Now, glue a second skull on all four corners, positioning them closer to the first set of skulls.

Step 3. Continue adding the skulls until the entire front of the wreath is covered.

Step 4. Fill in the outer and inner edges with skulls until most of the wreath is covered.

Step 5. Now that all your skulls are in place, you must decide whether to keep your wreath au natural or go full glam with metallic paint. I chose spray paint!

Step 6. Apply your desired spray paint color over the entire wreath using light coats, allowing for full drying time.

My favorite thing about this Metallic Skulls Halloween Wreath is that from a distance, it looks like just an ordinary black wreath, but when you get closer, there are skulls, skulls, and more skulls!

What to buy for Halloween from Dollar Tree

A frugal way to do Halloween decorations is by going to the dollar store for supplies. For example, you can buy fake spiders, cobwebs, and other spooky decorations inexpensively. Dollar store supplies can be a great way to add some holiday spirit without spending much money. Here are other supplies I like to get at Dollar Tree for Halloween:

  • foam skulls
  • plastic skull
  • mini skeletons
  • supplies for skull wreath
  • kids treats
  • candle holders
  • mason jars
  • baskets
  • front porch decor
  • front door decor
  • balloons
  • mantle items
  • party favors
  • plastic spider
  • foam pumpkins
  • plastic pumpkins
  • glitter
  • fake broom
  • candy

The list could seriously go on and on! Most of the materials for this Easy Dollar Tree Wall Decor are from a dollar store (Dollar Tree), and even though I created them years ago, they still sell many of the same items during Halloween.

“The Witch Is In” Halloween Decor

Materials:

  • Wooden Painting Panel
  • Dollar Tree “Witch Is In” Sign
  • Dollar Tree Plastic Cauldron
  • Dollar Tree Plastic Eyeballs
  • Great Stuff Crack Filler
  • Paint
  • Hot Glue Gun / Glue Sticks
Supplies needed to make the easy "Witch Is In" Dollar Tree Wall Decor

Step 1. Use a pair of scissors (not your fabric ones!) to cut off the back portion behind the handle of the plastic cauldron. Be careful and go slowly, as there may be cracks along the way. Don’t worry, though—the crack filler will cover them up!

Cut cauldron in half

Step 2. Prepare the painting panel with your chosen paint colors. I went for orange and purple to keep the item lighthearted and whimsical, but it’s entirely up to you!

painting the backdrop

Step 3. Adhere the halved cauldron in place using hot glue. Since this is only temporary until the crack filler dries, don’t worry about putting too much glue.

Gluing the cut cauldron to the painted wood panel.

Step 4. First, follow the directions on the can of Great Stuff. It’s an easy task, but don’t fill the cauldron too high, or you’ll end up with a mess (like in the pictures below!). Instead, only fill it to the top of the rim and then press down on the eyeballs. The foam will expand over time so give it about 24 hours before checking back again.

Witch-Is-In-Halloween-Decor-16
Filling the cauldron with the crack filler

Step 5. Separate the shoes from the sign and glue expanding foam onto the handle. Again, don’t worry if it’s not stable because the foam will expand and secure the feet. Take the “Witch Is In” sign and glue it to the bottom of the plaque.

Adding the feet

That’s all there is to it! Attach a hanger to the back of your piece once the foam has dried. No one will realize that you only used a few dollar store items to create this amusing “Witch Is in” Halloween décor!

Dollar Tree is the perfect place to find affordable Halloween decorations. This tutorial will show you how to make a fun “The Witch Is In” sign using materials from Dollar Tree. Check out this project if you’re looking for an easy and inexpensive way to add some holiday spirit!

How to Make Easter Egg Spring Wreath

  1. Begin by filling the concave side of the wire wreath with large clumps of kelly green excelsior. Wrap the wreath with green floral wire, securing the grass in position. Continue until you’ve wrapped all of the wreath. Don’t worry if it looks like the grass isn’t as secure on the wreath; you’ll be adding tons of hot glue with eggs. Can’t find wood grass? You can also use moss as well.
  2. Glue a speckled egg to the wreath’s back and hold it in place until secure. I wanted to ensure that I hid the green wire, so I first added eggs to those areas.
  3. Fill the wreath with eggs until you’re satisfied with the look. I’m going to forewarn you that this step takes a long time, but it’s well worth it for those nice full effects and coverage. You may either work on this wreath one section at a time over the next few weeks or watch a movie and finish it in one shot.
  4. If you’re not sure if you’ve used enough eggs, hold the wreath against a wall to double-check for any bald spots. If necessary, add a few more eggs!
  5. Make a bow from a 30″ length of ribbon, if necessary. This lovely pink ribbon is from Dollar Tree!
  6. Use the hot glue gun one more time to secure the ribbon in place. Take extra care with this step since the hot glue is scorching and travels quickly through the thin ribbon material!

Dollar Store Supplies Pros & Cons

The great thing about making a wreath from dollar store materials is that it’s affordable and accessible. You can find almost everything you need at your local dollar store, and the project only takes a few minutes to complete.

However, there are a few drawbacks to using dollar store materials. First, the quality of the materials may not be as good as those found at craft stores. Second, the selection may be limited, so you may have to get creative with your designs.

Overall, though, making a Valentine’s Day wreath from dollar store materials is a great way to save money and add some festive flair to your home. I used necklaces found at Dollar Tree because they were readily available and cost 4/$1.00. Have to love inexpensive craft supplies!

If you’re looking for a way to add some extra festive flair to your home this Valentine’s Day, why not try making a wreath? So what are you waiting for? Get started on your dollar store Valentine’s Day wreath today!

Step By Step Tutorial

Are you ready to make this super easy wreath? Let’s get started! These are the supplies you’ll need:

The first step will be to wrap the pink crepe paper around the foam wreath. This will create a uniform background color for the metallic necklaces to blend into. You can use a bit of hot glue to adhere the final section in place.

Hand wrapping pink crepe paper around foam wreath

Begin adding the heart necklaces by gluing the beginning of one to the back of the wreath and then wrapping it until you can hot glue the end to the back as well. Continue attaching the necklaces, alternating colors as you go. Depending on the width and size of your wreath, you may need to squeeze the inner sections of necklaces to account for the curvature of the wreath.

Hand gluing piece of metallic heart necklace to back of wreath

Use Cricut digital cutting machine to cut a bow shape from the Metallic Faux Leather and assemble with hot glue. Apply more hot glue to the back of the bow and stick in place on the bottom of the wreath.

You can either decide to leave the wreath just like this or add galvanized words (also found at Dollar Tree) for more customization. I had the hardest time deciding which one I liked the best!

Rainbow Bunny Peeps® Wreath https://www.triedandtrueblog.com/rainbow-bunny-peeps-wreath/ https://www.triedandtrueblog.com/rainbow-bunny-peeps-wreath/#comments Tue, 16 Mar 2021 14:55:00 +0000 https://www.triedandtrueblog.com/?p=8988 I’ve been making Peeps® Wreaths for 6 years now and honestly, this is one has got to be one of my favorites! I usually use the classic chick shape but couldn’t find them in all the colors so I instead switched to bunnies. Aren’t they cute?

Rainbow Bunny Peeps® Wreath

Materials:

Step One. Ok, peeps, this isn’t rocket science but there are a few hints that will make this project so much easier and enjoyable. First one: Completely remove the wrappers and let the Peeps® dry out for a couple days before making the wreath. They’ll be much easier to work with if they’re not so sticky!

Rainbow Bunny Peeps® Wreath - Supplies

Step Two. Next hint? Use two toothpicks per bunny to secure in place. This will prevent them from spinning on a single point and shifting on the wreath.

Rainbow Bunny Peeps® Wreath - Attach

Step Three. Continue placing the bunnies in a circle around the front and outer edge of wreath. Once completed, fill in the center ring with vertically placed bunnies.

Rainbow Bunny Peeps® Wreath - Inner Ring

Step Four. Tie a large bow out of the burlap ribbon and insert a floral pin in the back. Secure in place at the top of the wreath.

Rainbow Bunny Peeps® Wreath - Ribbon

And that’s it, your super “sweet” wreath is good to go!

In the past, a few people have mentioned that heat or humidity have caused some of the Peeps® to fall off. If this is a problem, just dab a bit of glue to where the toothpick meets the sugary surface.

Another issue that has been brought up in the past is the ant factor. I would highly suggest a couple coats of clear spray varnish if you know ants are a problem where you live.

  • Use the Cricut Rotary Blade to cut the skull shapes from the Oly*fun material. You can substitute felt for Oly*fun if needed.
  • Use your Cricut to cut the decorative details from the Heat Transfer Vinyl. I used five different colors but the choice is up to you! Apply decorations to fabric calavera with Easy Press Mini. HINT: You're going to want to use the very lowest setting and a protective sheet to iron the vinyl onto the Oly*fun. Only apply the iron for a few seconds to prevent the material from melting.
  • Apply a thin line of the Fabri-Tac around the edge of skull cut-out and glue the front and back together. Make sure to leave a small section open to stuff with Poly-fil and then seal shut with Fabri-Tac.
  • Wrap the wreath form with decorative ribbon. Use Fabri-Tac or hot glue to adhere the stuffed calaveras in place.
  • Make a large bow to attach to the bottom of the wreath. Enjoy!

Celebrating Día de Muertos

The way my family celebrates Día de Muertos has changed over the years but always includes bright decorations, calaveras (skulls), and an ofrenda (alter). The kids usually help me put up the ofrenda while we watch Book of Life or Coco. We drink Mexican Hot Chocolate and tell stories of loved ones that have passed.

It’s such a sweet holiday that reminds us of who we are, where we come from, and where we’re going. There may be a few tears remembering those we miss but there are also tons of laughs and smiles. And so many wonderful stories!

Hope you enjoy making this Dia Muertos Calaveras Wreath!

Candy Hearts Valentine's Day Wreath - A sweet wreath tutorial to celebrate the day!

Are you a fan of those sugary-sweet candy hearts that always pop up around Valentine’s Day? (Except for 2019 apparently!) It seems that people are pretty opinionated about whether they like them or not. One thing we can all agree on is that this Candy Hearts Valentine’s Day Wreath is perfectly sweet enough for any decor!

This month’s Craft Lightning is dedicated to obscure holidays so I’m making this wreath in celebration of National Candy Day on November 4th. Supplies:

Candy Hearts Valentine's Day Wreath - Paper Mache Hearts

The first thing you’re going to want to do is place out the paper mache heart box lids around the wreath to get an idea of how they’re going to fit. I was able to fit 11 around a 12″ hoop but depending on the size of yours, you may need more or less.

Candy Hearts Valentine's Day Wreath - Embroidery Hoops

Once you have the exact amount, grab a paintbrush and begin adding some color to the front of each lid. Set the lids aside to dry completely.

Candy Hearts Valentine's Day Wreath - Paint

When the lids are completely dry, use the alphabet stamps to add words to the hearts. You can either copy the sayings I used or make up some fun ones of your own!

Candy Hearts Valentine's Day Wreath - Stamp

Layout the hearts on your embroidery hoop again to see where you’re going to have to glue everything in place. Remove one heart at a time to apply a bit of glue to the hoop and then press the lid in place. Don’t worry if it’s not feeling super secure. We’ll work on that in the next step!

Candy Hearts Valentine's Day Wreath - Glue

Now that you have all the hearts on the embroidery hoop, carefully flip the wreath over and begin securing the places when the wreath and the lid touch with tons of hot glue. This is not the time to be conservative with your hot glue gun use. The more the better!

Candy Hearts Valentine's Day Wreath - Back

Continue around the entire wreath until each heart is securely in place. You can either hang as is or use a ribbon attached to the top to hang from a nail. Whether you like eating them or not, hope you enjoy this Candy Heart Valentine’s Day Wreath for many years to come!

After two years in the making, I’m so glad to be finally posting this Dia de Los Muertos Calavera Wreath. It’s really not that difficult of a project but for some reason it’s just taken me forever to complete. I actually thought of this project a couple years ago when I saw these super awesome mini paper mache skulls on Consumer Crafts but between gathering all the supplies and having a newborn, well, I’m sure you understand. Hope you enjoy this Dia de Los Muertos Calavera Wreath because it sure was a labor of love!

Dia de Los Muertos Calavera Wreath

Supplies:

Step 1. Before gluing and painting, you’re going to need to layout the skulls on the wreath to see how they’ll fit best. Make sure you have the wreath hallow side up so that the heads can rest in the curved space. There’s going to be a bit of space in between each skull so that we can wrap the tulle around the wire frame.

Step 2. Now that you know where each head basically has to be placed. Begin gluing each skull in place with an ample amount of hot glue. Seriously. Go to town with the hot glue. I applied glue like in the picture below and then flipped the entire wreath over and squeezed even more hot glue from the back.

Step 3. Ok, so remember how I said that finishing this wreath took over a year because I started it and then never finished. Well, I’m sorry to say that some of the process pictures got lost during that time. #bloggerproblems Luckily, the next couple steps aren’t hard to explain! Once you have the wreath assembles, apply a few coats of white spray paint until the paper mache is covered completely. After the spray paint has dried completely, you can begin to add colorful details to the fronts with the 3D puff paint. You can go as detailed or as simple as you want on this step. Feel free to copy some of my designs or look up “sugar skulls” on Google for more decoration ideas. Allow puff paint to dry completely.

Step 4. Fold an 18″ strip of tulle over 6 times on itself and then cut.

Step 5. Take tulle and wrap around the wire frame in between each skull. Trim the excess to just below the skull. Fluff the tulle to cover more blank space.

Step 6. Oops! Forgot to add the black detail around the teeth. Grab a paintbrush and some black paint to paint black borders around the mouth.

Whew, take some time to admire your colorful creation for a bit. Especially if it took 2 years to complete this Dia de Los Muertos Calavera Wreath! No mater the effort, I absolutely LOVE how this wreath came out and can’t wait to hang it in our house to celebrate Day of the Dead!

A fun and spooky Zombie Hands Halloween Wreath

If you read crafty blogs long enough you soon realize that we’re on a bit of an accelerated schedule when it comes to holiday projects. Initially, it may weird to see Halloween projects in August or Valentine’s Day crafts before Christmas has even passed but there’s a reason for all of that, I promise!

We just want to make sure that you have plenty of time to decide on a project, buy necessary supplies (sometimes online), and then actually make the tutorial. All of that takes time, nevermind if something goes wrong and you have to repeat a step or two.

Knowing all that, you’ll understand now why I feel like this Zombie Hands Halloween Wreath tutorial is so late even though it’s only the middle of October. That said, I just couldn’t help but share my new favorite Halloween wreath with you!

Zombie Hands Halloween Wreath - Hands

I totally would have made this wreath months ago if I had seen these awesome zombie hands sooner on the Consumer Crafts website. I’m a huge fan of minimal modern wreaths so when I saw these, I just knew I had to turn them into a Halloween wreath. I love how super authentic they look, they even have exposed bone on some of the knuckles and wrists!

UPDATE: Since I wrote this tutorial, Consumer Crafts has closed their doors. I’ve made every effort to find replacement supplies and will include them in the materials list below.

Materials:

Zombie Hands Halloween Wreath - Supplies

Step 1. Begin by separating the two different types of hands (Flat Palm Out one and Clenched Fingers) into two separate groups.

Step 2. Starting with the Open Palm hands, lay them out on the wreath equally spaced apart. Once all of the hands are positioned, squeeze out a bit of hot glue approximately where the hand meets the wreath and hold in place until secure. Don’t worry if you don’t put the glue exactly in the right place. This is just to hold the placement until all the hands are on. You’ll be adding tons more glue to the back in a few steps!

Step 3. Time to add the second row of hands! Apply a bit of glue to the wrists of the Palms Up hands that are already in place on the wreath and press the Cinched Fingers hands in place. Again, this is going to seem really flimsy but you’ll be adding more glue next!

Step 4. Now that all the hands are in place on your wreath, flip the entire thing over and begin applying large dollops of hot glue to the back. Don’t be stingy with your glue, this is what’s going to keep the wreath from falling apart at the first hint of strong winds!

Step 5. Depending on if you like the look of the bare hands or if you want to make your wreath ultra glam, spray a few coats of gold glitter spray paint over the entire wreath until you’re happy with the coverage. Allow to dry completely before attaching a bow to the bottom of the wreath. The gaps between the hands makes it super easy to add the ribbon!

This has got to be one of my absolute favorite Halloween wreaths ever! I love that it looks perfectly normal from far away and that you only see how absolutely creepy it is when you get closer. Zombie hands for the win!
