Super Easy Cardboard Basket Weaving https://www.triedandtrueblog.com/super-easy-cardboard-basket-weaving/ https://www.triedandtrueblog.com/super-easy-cardboard-basket-weaving/#comments Mon, 09 May 2022 16:40:00 +0000 https://www.triedandtrueblog.com/?p=11412 We are smack in the middle of Spring Break so this week’s Super Easy Cardboard Basket Weaving tutorial could not be more perfectly planned! The idea is to make a project that will keep kids occupied for 15 minutes or less so that parents can jump in the shower or finish that much-needed morning cup of coffee. This Cardboard Basket Weaving tutorial is perfect because you can scale the template down to make a small bowl that can come together quickly or keep it large to take up even more time!

UPDATE 5/11/2022: I’ve gotten such an amazing response to this tutorial through the years! It brings me such joy to know that you all are enjoying making these baskets with your students, kids, and family. I’ve updated this tutorial to include multiple templates and versions. When you open the download file in the Creative Library, you’ll be able to choose which one you’d like to download and use. Jump immediately to the new updated tutorial!

If you’d rather watch a quick video on how to make the updated finished basket, just check out the video below!

Super Easy Cardboard Basket Weaving

Materials:

Step One. Use either a cutting machine (I love my Cricut Maker!) or a sharp pair of scissors to cut the Cardboard Basket Weaving template from thin cardboard. I suggest using Cricut Kraft board but a cereal box would work well too. Remember to scale the template down if you want a project that takes less than 15 minutes. Also, I’m not counting this step toward the 15-minute stopwatch since I usually just have a bunch of these stored away until needed.

Basket weaving template cut into cardboard.

Step Two. Use the Cardboard Basking Weaving file to cut a felt circle that will be glued to the inside of your basket. You can also glue one to the bottom if you’d like.

Felt circle being glued onto the bottom of the cardboard template.

Step Three. Tie the yarn end to one of the cardboard spokes and begin to weave in and out each panel.

Hot pink string beginning weaving around cardboard template.

Step Four. Continue weaving until you’re ready to add another color. You can switch out the yarns by just tying one to the other and continuing weaving around bowl.

Child's hands holding and weaving basket.

Step Five. Once you’ve made it to the top, wrap a good amount of yarn around the top of the basket and secure with a few clothespins. Depending on the age of your child, you might have to help him with this step.

Step Six. Begin working on the top by inserting a needle through the bottom until the loose yarn end is secure. Work the needle to the top and begin weaving around the edge, in and out of the circles at the top.

Using a child-safe needle to finish the basket.

Updated Basket Template

Here’s another version of this cardboard woven basket. It requires even fewer supplies (no tapestry needle needed!):

  • Woven Basket Template 2 free printables
  • Sturdy Cardboard Bases
  • Weaving material (Skeins of yarn, fabric, raffia, ribbon, twine, or even paper strips)
  1. Use a Cricut machine or cut woven basket template 2 out by hand from cardboard.
  2. Fold all the extensions inward.
  3. Tie weaving material to one of the extensions and begin weaving in and out.
  4. Continue until the basket is completely covered.
  5. Cut excess yarn, leaving about 3 inches at the end. Wrap back through a few of the extensions to secure.
  6. Finish the basket by folding the top tabs in place.

Beautiful Baskets

And there you have it, an awesome little basket that your whole family can enjoy making! Depending on the size, these can either be made in a quick 15-minute session or longer if the basket is bigger. Either way, they’ll be super proud of their creation!

Teacher Appreciation Week

Teacher Appreciation Week is an event that is held annually in the United States during the first week of May. The purpose of Teacher Appreciation Week is to celebrate and honor the contributions of teachers to our society. Teachers are important role models and educators who play a vital role in our children’s lives.

There are many ways to show your appreciation for your favorite teacher during Teacher Appreciation Week. Some people choose to write a heartfelt letter or make a small DIY gift. Others may decide to do something more elaborate, such as throwing a party or organizing a classroom activity.

No matter how you choose to celebrate, remember that the most important thing is to let your teacher know how much you appreciate them!

What is the best teacher appreciation gift?

The best teacher gift ideas are the ones that come from the heart. It doesn’t have to be expensive or elaborate, but it should be something that your teacher will appreciate and remember.

Another factor to keep in mind: Does your teacher actually need the gift? Many teachers already have enough mugs, pencils, soaps, and school supplies. Instead of giving a material gift, consider giving your teacher an experience, such as tickets to a show or a gift certificate for a massage. A quick search on Pinterest will present tons of options for free printable gift tags that will work with almost any theme.

When in doubt…a gift card to a store or restaurant you know they like will always be appreciated. That’s why I created this Smarties free printable tag so that you could assemble it with or without a gift card section. My standard go-to are gift cards to Starbucks, Target, or Amazon but it’s best to always go with something you know your teacher likes. Remember: the best teacher appreciation gift ideas are the ones that allow them to get some of their favorite things!

Are you looking for a new printer?

If you’re in the market for a new printer, I highly recommend the Epson ET-8550. This printer is fantastic! It prints, copies, and scans. It also has built-in Wi-Fi and Ethernet, so it’s easy to connect to your home or office network.

The Epson ET-8550 is the perfect printer for anyone who needs an all-in-one solution but wants a bit more quality than your standard home printer.

I’ve used so many printers and, honestly, this is the first one that has impressed me with its quality. Just look at the color richness and complete fill for the Smartie printable!

Two of my favorite features of the Epson ET-8550:

  • It prints on a wide variety of paper types and sizes! I love the 13″ x 19″ poster paper and the Velvet Fine Art paper (which I used for this project).
  • The Eco-Tank feature means you don’t have to purchase printer cartridges frequently. Just fill the tanks when they’re empty and continue printing!

I can’t imagine a better printer for anyone who needs to use their printer regularly. Whether you’re printing photos or brochures, this printer will not disappoint. So if you’re in the market for a new printer, I recommend checking out the Epson ET-8550!

What is Teacher Appreciation Week

Teacher Appreciation Week is an event that celebrates all the hard work that teachers do throughout the school year and beyond. It’s a time to show our gratitude for all they’ve done for us and let them know how much we appreciate them.

Teacher Appreciation Week is usually the first week of May, but it can vary from year to year. Teacher Appreciation Day is always the first Tuesday of May.

Most schools celebrate the week with different activities for students and families to participate in. There’s usually ample creativity, cookies, candy, affection, and handwritten notes during the week. Nothing is too great for the best teacher!

How to Show Your Teacher Appreciation

There are many different ways to show your teacher appreciation. Some people like to buy their teachers gifts, while others prefer to write them heartfelt thank you notes. Whatever you choose to do, make sure it comes from the heart and that your teacher knows just how much you appreciate them.

Here are a few ideas to get you started:

1. Buy your teacher a small gift. A mug or a plant is always appreciated.

2. Write your teacher a thank you note from you or your kid. Take the time to express how much they mean to you and how much you appreciate all they’ve done for a great school year.

3. Give your special teacher a gift card (Starbucks perhaps?). It’s a great way to let them know you’re thinking of them, and it allows them to buy something they want or need. You can even get a digital gift card for last-minute gift giving!

4. Make a homemade gift. If you’re crafty, put your skills to use and make your teacher a one-of-a-kind gift.

5. Volunteer in your teacher’s classroom. Show your support by offering to help out in their classroom. They’ll appreciate the extra help, and it’s a great way to show you care.

How to Make a Free Printable Thank You Card for Your Teacher

One of the best ways to show your teacher appreciation is a handwritten thank you card. These cards are simple to print out, and they’re sure to make your teacher feel appreciated.

All you need to make your thank you card is a printer and some paper. My absolute favorite printer ever is the Epson EcoTank ET-8550. It’s a bit more expensive than your standard conventional printer but it can print a huge variety of paper sizes and the quality is just amazing.

After you’ve printed out my Teacher Appreciation Alphabet Thank You Card, take some time to write out a thoughtful message to your child’s teacher. Good teachers are truly such a lifetime gift to students and deserve all the compliments you could possibly write in a thank you card.

If you’re having a difficult time finding the inspiration or the right words to write in a teacher appreciation card, another option would be to have your child write it out instead. Is there anything sweeter than a child talking about their wonderful year with a magical teacher and then signing it with the child’s name? I think not!

Look no further! With Infusible Ink, you can create a super cute and easy Easter Bunny Hoodie in no time at all. This project is perfect for both children and adults, and it can be made in any color or style that you desire. We will provide some background on Infusible Ink and how to use it to create your very own Easter Bunny Hoodie, so read on to get started!

Want to watch a quick video tutorial instead?

Here’s a quick run-through of how I made the Easter Bunny Hoodie just in case you like watching tutorials instead of reading them!

Background on Infusible Ink

Infusible Ink is Cricut’s version of sublimation. It is perfect for crafting projects, and it can be used to create everything from t-shirts to hoodies to aprons. Infusible Ink comes in a variety of colors, and it is easy to use. Simply cut out your design using a Cricut machine, weed out the excess material, and heat it up with an Easy Press or other high-temperature heat press. Your design will be permanently attached to your fabric in just a few seconds!

Since Infusible Ink is infused directly into the fabric, this is a perfect option for items made for kids. You don’t have to worry about the ink fading or peeling off over time, and it is also machine-washable. That’s exactly why I went with Infusible Ink for the bunny ears!

Tips for using Infusible Ink

When using Infusible Ink, it is important to remember a few key tips:

Infusible Ink Tips:

  • Be sure to use a high temp heat press when applying the ink. A regular household iron will not get hot enough to properly fuse the ink to your fabric.
  • You’ll need to mirror your design before cutting or else it’ll infuse backward.
  • Weed out all of the excess material before heat pressing your design. This is easiest if you first bend and fold the cut lines.
  • Definitely use a healthy amount of heat-resistant tape to keep the design from shifting during heating.
  • Take time to enjoy the reveal. It’s my favorite part!

Supplies needed:

  • Basic hooded sweatshirt
  • Microfiber towel (Dollar Tree) or another sublimation-friendly fabric
  • Cricut cutting machine
  • Infusible Ink Pink
  • Black Heat Transfer Vinyl
  • (Optional) Pink & White Heat Transfer Vinyl
  • Sewing Materials
  • Free Bunny Ears Hoodie Pattern (see below)
Supplies needed to make the Easter Bunny Hoodie

How to make an Easter Bunny Hoodie

Now that you know a little bit more about Infusible Ink, it’s time to make an Easter Bunny Hoodie!

  1. Use the free Bunny Ears Pattern to cut four shapes from the microfiber towel. Sew around the edges (1/4″ seam) to create two bunny ears.
  2. Flip ears right side out and sew around the edges again (1/4″ seam).
  3. Use the free pattern to cut the inner ear section from the pink Infusible Ink.
  4. Use the manufacturer’s instructions to apply to each ear.
  5. Fold the ears in half and sew along the top of the hoodie.
  6. Use a Cricut machine to cut out a bunny face from black heat transfer vinyl and apply it to the hoodie.

Making friends and learning new things are two of the best memories from my school days. We didn’t celebrate 100 days of school when I was a kid, but I got to experience the day with my kids. They always love counting down the days and celebrating this fun day in school.

  • Make 100 gumballs and put them in a jar.
  • Take 100 pictures of your kids with some instructions on what to do for the 100th day.
  • Hang 100 streamers from a newel post or doorway

  • Add some bling to your celebration by making 100 paper pom-poms and hanging them on 100 balloons.
  • Each student can write 100 things they learned this year in 100 words or less.

Funny Thanksgiving Wine Labels Free Printables https://www.triedandtrueblog.com/funny-thanksgiving-wine-labels-free-printables/ https://www.triedandtrueblog.com/funny-thanksgiving-wine-labels-free-printables/#respond Thu, 14 Oct 2021 14:25:25 +0000 https://www.triedandtrueblog.com/?p=19105 Move over, cranberry sauce. This year’s most popular Thanksgiving hostess gift is wine! And with these free printable labels, you don’t have to break the bank to give a thoughtful present. These also make great gifts for teachers, neighbors, or co-workers! Just download and print off as many as you need – there’s no limit on how many you can have.

Giving the Gift of Thanksgiving Wine

I get it, turkey is great and all, but there’s one thing I love (and dread) more than anything else about Thanksgiving: family. The good news is that sometimes, the food (wine) can help distract from some of the awkwardness or unpleasantness of sitting around a table with relatives who you only see once a year.

But let’s be real: it’s not always easy to make conversation and avoid fighting with your brother-in-law over politics. And even if you’re trying to be civil for everyone else’s sake, it can still take a toll on you. So this year, why not give yourself the gift of wine?

Showing up with a bottle of wine with one of these funny Thanksgiving Wine Labels is not only courteous but, I’d say, essential too! You can also feel good about buying a bottle that you actually like because these funny wine labels are free!

I’ve designed four different funny Thanksgiving wine labels, each with a humorous twist on the holiday:

  • Happy Thanksgiving (Get your fat pants on!)
  • Eat, Drink, and Be Thankful (and then drink some more.)
  • This wine pairs well with turkey and family drama.
  • This wine is my dessert.

These funny wine labels are the perfect way to make your guests feel a little more at ease. There’s a Thanksgiving label for every wine lover and foodie out there, making it easy to find the perfect gift for people you love.

Printing Hints and Tricks

Before you go and print these funny Thanksgiving wine labels, there are a couple of things to keep in mind:

  • I’ve got the files split up on different pages so that you don’t have to print out all of the designs if you only need one. The final page of the document contains all of them in case you are using them all at one time.
  • The wine labels are all sized to fit a standard bottle of wine. Feel free to resize them either in an editing program or through your printer if you need smaller or larger measurements.
  • You can print on regular paper but make sure you’ve some sort of adhesive to apply it to the wine bottle. I’m a big fan of spray adhesive or strong double sided tape.
  • Another option would be to print directly on sticker paper. Love these sheets from Neato!
  • If you’re planning on storing the wine bottle in the fridge, you might want to protect the labels from condensation with clear vinyl.
  • I’m a huge fan of my Epson printer! I usually go with “Best” in the print setting for a project like this.

I hope you enjoy these funny Thanksgiving wine labels and make this year’s family get-together a little less stressful (and maybe even more fun for everyone!).

Why play a Halloween printable game?

This free printable Halloween game is really super easy to make and play! It can be played with preschool through early elementary. It might seem super easy for adults and older kids but the young ones will love it!

Playing games is also good for brain development. Games require us to be creative when working to solve problems, see patterns or figure out puzzles. This can help young children when it comes to developing their problem-solving skills in later life.

This game can help teach kids about early mathematical concepts. Considering the number they need to complete a web and taking turns with other players is definitely a step towards learning about number sense.

Playing games together is a great way to bond with your child and provide them with an opportunity for peer interaction with other kids in the class or at home. Games, like this Halloween Dice Game, that are easy to understand will make this possible even for younger children.

The best reason to play this Halloween printable game? Your kids or students will have FUN!

How to download Halloween Dice Game

If you’re already a member of the Tried & True Creative Library, just log in to download! If you’re not, then it’s really easy to join. Just register with an email address in the box below. Membership is free and you can print as many times as you want.

Instructions

Step One. To accommodate as many children as possible, you’ll need to print off enough free printable Halloween Dice Game sheets for each of them. I really like the quality of this cardstock! Each of them doesn’t have to roll the die (unless there are more than six kids) but they will all require a spider-web scorecard.

Step Two. Make the Halloween character die from cardstock by cutting, taping, and folding (helpful if you score the edges with a pen!) Depending on your child’s age, this part may or may not need assistance. Give one scorekeeper spider web card to each child.

Step Three. To play, have each child pick a Halloween character as their own and then mark a line on the spider web every time that character is rolled. To be the winner, you must first complete the entire web. If there are six or fewer children playing, you may roll one die for the entire group. If you have more, let each kid make and roll their own die. The first one to roll enough of their character to fill the entire web wins.

That’s all there is to it! We had a lot of fun picking our characters and played many rounds of this game in one sitting with my kids! Instead of printing out the scorecard, again and again, I had them make new lines slightly higher than the original ones. They ended up with a really intricate spider web!
