Harry Potter is a series of seven fantasy novels written by British author J. K. Rowling. The books chronicle the adventures of Harry, a young wizard who must fight against Lord Voldemort to save both the Muggle and Wizarding worlds from his dastardly plans as he grows up in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry while trying to find out more about his past!

It’s a fun series with complex plots and interesting characters to keep you turning pages. In general, Harry Potter has won over the hearts of young readers everywhere!

Easy Custom Graduation Tumbler with Cricut Joy https://www.triedandtrueblog.com/easy-custom-graduation-tumbler-with-cricut-joy/ https://www.triedandtrueblog.com/easy-custom-graduation-tumbler-with-cricut-joy/#respond Thu, 27 May 2021 13:39:41 +0000 https://www.triedandtrueblog.com/?p=18594 Learn how to make the perfect gift for a recent grad…a Custom Graduation Tumbler filled with awesomeness! They’re inexpensive to make and tons of fun to customize with contents, names, and school colors.

Custom Graduation Tumbler with various small gift items falling out.

Whether it’s graduating from elementary, high school, or college, this year’s graduates definitely deserve a round of applause! If you’re planning on making gifts for any recent grads, this Custom Graduation Tumbler is the perfect way to celebrate their accomplishments.

It can be gifted just by itself (and who couldn’t use a new tumbler!) or you can fill it with additional gifts like in the picture above. Most of the items were inexpensively bought at dollar and big box stores. You could even add a gift card if you’re feeling fancy!

Making a Custom Graduation Tumbler

Hands inserting silver vinyl into a Cricut Joy machine.

Making one of these cute tumblers is super easy with the help of your handy Cricut Joy and Smart Vinyl! Using fonts and images that were included with Cricut Access made designing this projects so super easy.

Since I wanted to use different types of Smart Vinyl (Shimmer & Permanent), I sliced the two layers together. This created a cut-out section in the black “GRAD” image for the silver name to lay flat on the tumbler.

This made designing and layering a little more complicated but the finished look was so worth it!

HINT: Don’t forget to use StrongGrip Transfer Tape when using Shimmer Smart Vinyl!

Hands removing transfer vinyl from a Custom Graduation Tumbler.

Graduation Card & Chocolates

Of course, no graduate gift would be complete without a greeting card and some tasty goodies. No worries…Cricut has got you covered with those too!

I wanted to keep with the whole “GRAD” theme so I found a “ConGRADulations” design and used it to make a Cricut Joy Insert Card.

Since it wasn’t specifically made for insert cards, I had to adjust the size a bit to cut correctly. Super easy to do if you open an insert card file in Design Space and just copy the dimensions.

Hands holding a gray card that says "ConGRADulations."

Making the mini candy wrappers is just as easy as the card! I used Cricut Joy™ Smart Label™ Writable Vinyl and the machine wrote and cut the stickers for me. All I had to do was peel the stickers from the backing and apply to the chocolates!

Adding "congratulations" stickers to mini chocolates.

Making Multiple Graduation Gifts

The best thing about this project is that, whether you’re making one gift or twenty gifts, the Cricut Joy makes it so easy to accomplish! I thought it would be fun to randomly select three followers on IG with Graduation Tumblers for their kids so I had my work cut out for me.

I created three different color schemes in Design Space to match the colors of each of their different schools. All I had to do was send all the cut files over to my Joy and it told me which colors to load. Making all three customized graduation tumblers was totally a breeze!

Make sure to scroll all the way to the bottom of this post to check out more awesome winter-themed free printables!

Making The Hot Chocolate Stirrers

You won’t believe how easy it is to make these hot chocolate stirrers! All you need is white melting chocolates, orange melting chocolates, a plastic spoon, and a food-safe marker.

To begin, use a sharp knife to carefully cut carrot-shaped pieces from the orange melting chocolates. Next, melt the white melting chocolates either in a microwave or double boiler. Dip the spoon in the white melting chocolates and set down on a level surface. Add “carrot” piece to the center of spoon and allow to harden.

Once the chocolate is hard, use the food-safe marker to make the round eyes and mouth pieces. Another option would be to cut these pieces out of black or brown melting chocolates if you can find them!

Finding the perfect holiday gift is difficult…especially this year when people are home more than ever! We use to default to gifting experiences (zoo memberships, performance tickets, etc) but that’s not really an option this year.

This crazy year has got me thinking…Why not gift the experience of creativity this year with the perfect little machine, the Cricut Joy!

Keep reading to find out who would love a Cricut Joy, why they would love it, and what other accessories could be combined for the perfect gift!

Hand inserting a green mat into a Cricut Joy.

Who would love a Cricut Joy?

The short answer? Anyone!

But let’s go into more detail on why the Cricut Joy is such a versatile gift for practically anyone on your list.

In case you’re not familiar with the great little cutting machine. The Cricut Joy is the smallest of the Cricut line of digital cutting machines. It’s about 8″ wide and weighs less than 4 lbs. but don’t let its size fool you. There’s plenty of power behind this machine!

The Cricut Joy would be perfect for:

  • teachers
  • business professionals
  • homemakers
  • older adults
  • parents
  • students
  • small business owners
  • homeschoolers
  • crafters
  • child care providers
  • restaurant owners
  • hobbyist
  • auto enthusiasts

and the list goes on and on!

Why will they love a Cricut Joy?

There are so many projects that can be done on a Cricut Joy that the options are almost limitless. Here are some of my favorite projects that can be made on the Joy and what gift recipient might appreciate it.

Cricut Joy cutting a pink card.
  1. Vinyl Cutting – This is probably the most obvious of functions. The Cricut Joy can cut individual shapes up to 4′ long and repeated cuts up to 20′ long. This is more than enough space for the majority of my vinyl projects. Perfect for crafters, small business owners, hobbyists, and practically anyone that wants to add vinyl to a variety of surfaces.
  2. Card Making – One of my favorite functions is the super quick and easy card making option. All you need is a Cricut Joy Card Mat and one of the Cricut Insert Card packs and you can make a beautiful greeting card in minutes. Perfect for homemakers, older adults, parents, and anyone that uses greeting cards often.
  3. Label Maker – You can use the Cricut Joy app to make a wide variety of customizable labels, adding “Label Maker” to the long list of projects the Cricut Joy can complete. Perfect for teachers, business professionals, students, and anyone that values organization.

Gifts for neighbors or family friends can be difficult some times. You want to give them something that won’t go to waste but want to make it still meaningful and heartfelt. For the last few years, we’ve always defaulted to something edible.

This year we’re upping the ante with something edible in a container that can be used over and over again. I just love how easy it is to customize gifts with my Cricut Joy!

Let’s get the holiday craft season started!

Hand holding a glass jar with Cricut Joy and supplies in background.

Watch the video tutorial

Assembling the Jar

Putting together this Gingerbread Cookies In A Jar Holiday Gift is super easy and can be completed 100% on the Cricut Joy. There are three main elements to this gift: the jar, the gift tag, and the greeting card. You can choose whether to include one, two, or all three elements.

To make the reusable cookie jar, you can either use a 1 quart (32 oz) wide mouth mason jar or a glass container like I found at Target. I really liked how it had a blank space perfect for customizing with the minimal “cookie” definition file. I adjusted the file slightly to fit within the glass space.

Since our neighbors have five kids, I actually doubled the recipe and put it in a 2 qt jar. Don’t forget to adjust the recipe card if you decide to do the same!

You can find all the Design Space files I used HERE!

Using Cricut Smart Vinyl in my Joy meant that I didn’t have to take up more time with a mat.I just inserted the vinyl and the machine was cutting seconds later!

HINT: Take your time when weeding letters this small. It’s easy to lose a period or tittle (the dot in the letter “i”)!

Gingerbread Cookies in a Jar Holiday Gift

A great gift for a neighbor or family friends! All they have to do is add a few more ingredients and follow the instructions to make delicious cookies.
Total Time 15 minutes
Servings 1 Jar (makes 18 cookies)
Author Vanessa Brady
Cost $10

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp ground allspice
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ground cloves
  • 2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 cup brown sugar (packed)

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl, mix 2 cups of flour with baking powder and baking soda. Set aside.
  • In a separate medium bowl, mix 1 ½ cups of flour with spices. Set aside.
  • Begin assembling jar by layering the first flour mixture at the bottom. Use a spatula or large spoon to firmly press. Add the brown sugar as the next layer. Firmly press again. Lastly, layer the second flour mixture and press one more time.
  • Add the following directions to a gift tag: Gingerbread Cookies 1. Empty contents of jar into a large mixing bowl and stir together. 2. Mix in 1/2 cup softened butter or margarine, 3/4 cup molasses, and 1 slightly beaten egg. Cover, and refrigerate for 1 hour. 3. Preheat oven to 350° F (175° C). 4. Roll dough to 1/4 inch thick on a lightly floured surface. Cut into shapes with a cookie cutter. Place cookies on a lightly greased cookie sheet about 2 inches apart. 5. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes in preheated oven. 6. Decorate and enjoy!

Making the Recipe Card

Of course, I just had to make a cute instruction card to go along with this Gingerbread Cookies In A Jar Holiday Gift, right? To make it easier, I used shapes and fonts that were included in my Cricut Access plan.

I used the Cricut Joy to write the instructions on white cardstock and then swapped out the Cricut Joy fine point pen for the knife tool and cut out the tag shape. The Writable Kraft Paper made the perfect gingerbread man border.

You can find all the Design Space files I used HERE!

Hand holding a tag with instructions on how to use Gingerbread Cookies In A Jar Holiday Gift.

Last Minute Holiday Greeting Card

I am the absolute worst at remembering the card when gifting so the Cricut Joy Insert Card option is my favorite thing about this little machine. Lucky for me, they had a sweet card design that coordinates with the gift’s cookie theme!

You may notice that I’m using the same kraft paper for the insert card background. I just applied it to one of the cards included in the set and voila! Perfectly matched!

Hand holding a card cut with Cricut Joy that says, "Wishing You a very sweet holiday season."

The Perfectly Sweet Gift

Hope this project comes in handy this year for all your gifting needs! Even if they absolutely hate gingerbread cookies, they can still enjoy the cookie jar. Let me know if you make one on social media. Would love to see your creation!

There are even two different tags to choose from depending on which style you like more. Great little gifts for classmates or friends!

Hand holding a glitter ornament with a white tag that explains the "Friendship Light Ornament."

One of my kid’s classmates gives little ornaments to the entire class every year. I’ve always thought it was such a cute tradition. We’ve got a handful of little ornaments that always remind us of friendship hanging on our tree!

I think these Friendship Light Ornaments would be the perfect little gift for your kids’ classmates and friends!

I’ve got two different ways to make these ornaments. Both are super easy to make so it all just depends on which look you like better and/or which one you have supplies on hand for.

Let’s get started!

Colorful Friendship Ornament Tag

I used a battery-powered lightbulb earring from Dollar Tree that I added string and the tag to. The whole project cost less than $1.00 and only took about 3 minutes to assemble.

If you’re interested in making a large amount of these as gifts, I highly suggest using these perforated tag labels. They come 12 to a page and since they’re already perfectly perforated, you don’t even need scissors!

Hand holding a battery powered green Christmas light with a Light of Friendship tag.

Simple & Elegant Friendship Light Ornament

If you’re looking for a gift tag that is a bit more elegant, I’ve got another design that’s perfect for you! The tag has the exact same poem but the design is a bit more suited for adults.

I made this pretty glittered ornament by just squeezing a bit of spray adhesive into a clear ornament and pouring in a good amount of glitter. So easy to make and dries fairly fast!

I used these clear lightbulb-shaped ornaments from Dollar Tree. They’re inexpensive and super cute!

Two glittered ornaments on a pink background with supplies.

To add a bit more glam to the “Light of Friendship” printable, I used a laser printer and a Glaminator to make the words and border silver. Totally optional but I love how it really makes the words pop!

A while ago I decided to focus primarily on the Tried & True crafts section of this blog and haven’t posted many recipes since then. Totally love cooking recipes still, just don’t love how messy my kitchen gets after!

This Air Fryer Sweet & Spicy Pecans recipe is so easy though!

It only requires four ingredients and 10 minutes in your air fryer and then you’re done. I highly suggest making a few batches because it’s going to be hard to keep your hands off them.

The Perfect Air Fryer

I’ve wanted an air fryer forever but didn’t want another appliance cluttering up my already small kitchen. Hamilton Beach Air Fry Sure-Crisp Toaster Oven to the rescue!

We don’t have a microwave so we use our toaster oven all the time. Having one appliance that can toast, air fry, bake & broil is not only saving us counter space but also is more energy and time efficient than your standard large oven.

Plus, it fits up to 6 pieces of toast or one 12″ pizza. Super important with three hungry & impatient kids!
