I haven’t always been a fan of summer. In fact, growing up with the intense desert southwest heat made me positively hate it. Nothing like triple degree heat at 9 in the morning to make you long for cooler days!

But all of that changed when my kids went to school.

We spend all year waking them up early, making sure they eat breakfast, packing a lunch, picking up from school, doing homework, and then making sure they go to bed at a decent time.

Summer now means we get a bit of a break. Instead, we spend our days sleeping in, working on passion projects, exploring the world, and watching movies late into the night.

I freaking love summers!

I’ve loved books all my life. A few years ago, I came across a box of some of my favorite childhood reads and was so excited to introduce my husband to my old “friends.”

That’s why I made this “Books Are Friends” Coloring Page Free Printable. Whether it’s the March sisters or Charlie Bucket, these characters played an important role in my childhood are will forever be my friends.

I’ve colored tons of coloring pages through the years. Usually I use colored pencils but thought I would do something a little different with this one. I had some watercolor markers that I received from a company a while back so figured I’d give them a try.

Overall, I like the way this coloring page turn out with the watercolor markers. They were easy to work with and fun to blend. Next time I’ll print out the coloring page on watercolor paper though!

Father’s Day is just around the corner and if you’re anything like me, you have no idea what you’re going to get the special men in your life.

Actually, I’m thinking of getting my husband an old-fashion shaving kit. You know, the ones that come with a bristle brush, soap, and dish? I would love it if he would go a more natural route with his morning routine and I think a shaving kit with hard soap would help. Any suggestions?

But back to the printable…

The only thing you need to keep in mind when working on this coloring page is the type of coloring you plan on using. Any paperweight will work if you plan on using crayons or colored pencils. You definitely want to use a thicker cardstock if you’re planning on using markers, though.

If there’s one good thing that’s come about as a result of the current pandemic, it’s that society is finally appreciating essential workers! From nurses to grocery workers, pharmacists to food delivery, essential workers are the real superheroes of this pandemic.

There are few things in this world I hate as much as laundry. Seriously, it drives me crazy! Dealing with piles and piles of laundry, day after day, is enough to make any sane person pull their hair out. Since my life is in a bit of a transitional phase, you all knew it was only a matter of time before I work through my shifting emotions in the form of a coloring page. The fact of the matter is now that both my boys are in school, I’m at a bit of a loss when it comes to the role I play in my family, in my profession, and really, society at large. It’s tough work, both physically and emotionally, being a mother!

Dare To Be

So, as I mentioned above, both my kids are in school this year and I’ve been mentally preparing myself to be ok with that. It wasn’t so much that I was going to miss them (although I do terribly!) as the knowledge that an entire stage of my life was gone. The long slow days of early childhood seemed to breeze by in the blink of an eye and now I’m the mother of school children with one big question on the horizon…What am I going to do now?

A New Chapter

When you’ve put off your own interests and free time to raise children at home for 7 years, it’s kind of nerve wracking to not have that crutch to fall back on all of a sudden. As you probably know, for the last 8 years, I’ve been blogging and working with craft companies for both enjoyment and income but previously if I didn’t make a monthly goal?

No biggie, I’m crazy busy with kids at home. 

I don’t have that excuse anymore. Now I’ve got the time to go full force into pursuing my dream job of being a craft designer and, honestly, that scares the dickens out of me!

Choosing to Be Bold

So, that’s where I’m at and that’s why I drew and displayed this Be Bold Free Coloring Page. I’m hoping that if I see these words everyday, I’ll eventually be bold enough to chase those big craft designer dreams. My toes are crossed since my fingers will be hard at work crafting!

It’s All About Flair

I made these little sweet notes small enough that you could easily color one in just a few minutes because mornings are crazy hectic over here! Taking a few moments to slow down and color while drinking my morning cup of joe was a nice way to start the day. We always have some PaperMate Flair pens around the house which make the perfect coloring accessories for small jobs like this.

Sweet Sentiments

There are four different notes to choose from and you can either color them in yourself or leave them for your children to color. I left the sentiments broad so that they could apply to almost any situation. In fact, now that I’m reading them again, I realize that they would also work perfectly as sweet love notes to that special significant other in your life. I think I’m going to color one up quickly and stick it to the dashboard in my husband’s car!
